Application Portfolio Management and Life cycle
We can look at our application portfolio from multiple perspectives. After getting past the first phase of putting together a list of applications in Excel and realizing that it's not just a matter of a few pieces of information (the name of the application, the application administrator who is in charge of it, and the documentation folder) and that this information is essential and we must building on it for the further direction of the company, we move on.
What about the application portfolio as a whole? How are we doing with application hosting? What do we want to migrate to the cloud and where will we be in a few years?
Examples of screens
Application - Basic properties
Information about the application as a configuration item is divided into several tabs. In addition to the basic features, we have a special tab for the life cycle, for teams and roles taking care of the application and other information.
Application - Life cycle
On the life cycle tab, we see key data for the acquisition and rollout of the application and subsequently for its retirement. The application is assessed from the point of view of compliance with functional and technical requirements, Gartner TIME strategy, hosting or migration strategy.
Visualizing application life cycle
We can clearly visualize the phasing of applications, their planning, implementation, active use and elimination.
Current and future application hosting
Looking at the application portfolio as a whole tells us how we operate applications and where we want to move in the future.
Project impact
The future hosting of applications is derived from planned projects that implement changes, for which we record their impact, the transformation they carry out...eg. which target hosting will be provided when and for which applications.
